The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation and The 8th Floor partnered with Open Engagement as an Open House Site for Open Engagement’s 2018 conference, offering an exhibition walkthrough of The Schoolhouse and the Bus: Mobility, Pedagogy, and Engagement, led by the Foundation's Executive and Artistic Director Sara Reisman. The Schoolhouse and the Bus paired seminal projects by two leading artists of the social practice movement, Pablo Helguera and Suzanne Lacy, in collaboration with cultural anthropologist Pilar Riaño-Alcalá, highlighting overlapping themes in their works including immigration, pedagogy, violence, memory, and community organizing.
