Dark Age continues to develop a new body of work in which the artist collaborates with members of his family. In this case, he does so with his only biological brother, establishing between them an archetypal dynamic that emerges from an intimate bond to address questions that transcend the familial. This performance is deeply connected to the historical moment and global transition toward a new era that we are experiencing on Earth. It reflects an intensified perception of the struggle between antagonistic forces inherent to human nature—forces that, in their confrontation within reality, reveal our individual and collective level of consciousness, question which path we are choosing as humanity, and how much suffering we are willing to endure in order not to let collapse a dysfunctional and ineffective system that currently feeds solely on violence, authoritarianism, and terror.
The gallery is open from 11am-6pm on the day of the performance, with a 1-2pm closure and prompt 2pm start for the performance. It will last approximately one hour. Guests are requested to arrive on time and stay for the entire duration. This performance may not be suitable for younger audiences.
Dark Age is one of three new performances commissioned as part of the exhibition Dark Age, on view at The 8th Floor through January 30, curated by Anjuli Nanda Diamond and George Bolster. The subsequent performances will be Mano de hierro (Iron Hand) on October 8 at 7pm, and Fear of Them on December 10 at 7pm. Learn more the exhibition and the artist here.
