East of Havana (82 min.), 2006 a film by Emilia Menocal and Jauretsi Saizarbitoria In Spanish with English subtitles.
Set in the streets of Alamar, East of Havana is a documentary tracing the experience of young Cuban hip-hoppers organizing a rap festival. Following three Cubans hip hop artists, the story recounts the struggles they encounter with repression and censorship.
The 8th Floor held a screening with Director Jauretsi Saizarbitoria for this special event. Saizarbitoria introduced the film and participated in a Q & A following the screening.
